Dear Monsieur le Directeur,
I am writing to lodge a formal complaint about the humiliating and racially discriminatory treatment my family and I endured at Passport Control, Charles de Gaulle Airport, on 17/04/2025.As a visitor who planned to enjoy and contribute to France’s culture and economy, I was appalled by the conduct of one of your officers.
Incident Details:
My mother Miss. Young carrying my eight‑month‑old daughter), my ten‑year‑old brother, my nine‑year‑old son, and myself (all travelling on the same booking reference: BA0307-ref:KSBXCC 010:20.
After being directed by a female officer to move a kiosk, we approached a male officer (white). Without explanation, he barked in French “Vous devez vous séparer” (“You must separate”), despite none of us speaking French and my mother already holding the infant.
In panic, my mother passed the baby to me and hurried to the next counter. Only then did the border officer reluctantly process her and my brother, while continuing to shout and slam my passport onto the desk. His aggressive body language and demeaning tone made us feel less like lawful visitors and more like suspects.
At no point did this officer offer any clear instructions in English or reasonably accommodate a family travelling with small children. His behavior was demeaning, intimidating, and given the clear family grouping entirely unjustified.
I suffer from an anxiety disorder, and this encounter aggravated my condition severely.
My children and elderly mother were left frightened and confused.
We felt racially profiled and disrespected, as there was no legitimate reason for such treatment beyond our skin colour.
Requested Remedies:
1. Investigation & Accountability: Identify the officer by name and badge number and conduct a full inquiry into his conduct. - you can identify the officer by checking who was logged in and cleared me threw customs at the time of my exit. I didn’t see a name badge nor catch his badge number.
2. Formal Apology:Issue a written apology to my family for the distress and discrimination we suffered.
3. Training & Prevention:Detail what measures and training on cultural sensitivity and anti‑discrimination will be implemented to prevent any recurrence.
4. Timely Response:Provide a written reply within 21 days of receipt of this letter, outlining your findings and intended corrective actions.
I trust you will treat this complaint with the seriousness it deserves. I look forward to your prompt acknowledgment and resolution so that I and other families can continue to enjoy France without fear of prejudice.
Yours faithfully,
